Senior AI Engineer

Role Overview

Fizz Dev is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and operate production-grade AI systems. You will lead the technical development of AI-powered products and workflows, from early prototypes through secure and scalable production deployment.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering skills with practical experience using large language models, retrieval systems, AI agents, and model evaluation frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver production AI applications and features.
• Build solutions using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agents, structured outputs, and model APIs.
• Develop evaluation systems for accuracy, relevance, safety, latency, reliability, and cost.
• Build data ingestion, embedding, retrieval, and vector-search pipelines.
• Implement monitoring, guardrails, access controls, and human-review workflows.
• Evaluate models, AI platforms, infrastructure, and third-party vendors.
• Collaborate remotely with product, design, data, security, and business teams.
• Establish engineering standards for AI development, testing, documentation, and deployment.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction across AI initiatives.
• Identify emerging AI capabilities that could create value for Fizz Dev and its customers.

Required Qualifications

• 6 or more years of software engineering, machine-learning, data-engineering, or related experience.
• 3 or more years of experience building and deploying machine-learning or AI systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Experience building applications with large language models or generative AI platforms.
• Experience with APIs, SQL, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and containerized deployment.
• Understanding of embeddings, vector databases, retrieval systems, prompt design, and model evaluation.
• Experience supporting production systems with testing, logging, monitoring, and incident-management practices.
• Strong written communication and remote collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multimodal models, fine-tuning, or distributed training.
• Experience building AI agents and automated business workflows.
• Familiarity with PyTorch, Hugging Face, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern MLOps platforms.
• Experience working with enterprise security, privacy, governance, or regulated data.
• Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.

Success Measures

During the first year, the Senior AI Engineer will:

• Launch multiple reliable AI capabilities with measurable customer or business value.
• Establish repeatable evaluation and monitoring standards.
• Improve model quality, cost, latency, and reliability against defined baselines.
• Create reusable AI architecture and engineering components.
• Improve the technical capabilities and delivery speed of the AI engineering team.

Compensation

Base salary: $180,000 to $230,000 USD per year.

Target bonus: 10% of base salary. This is an annual performance-based target and is not guaranteed; actual awards depend on company and individual performance.

Actual base salary within the posted range depends on experience, skills, location, and other job-related factors.
