Junior AI Engineer

Role Overview

Fizz Dev is seeking a Junior AI Engineer to support the development, testing, deployment, and improvement of AI-powered applications.

This position is intended for an early-career engineer with strong programming fundamentals and an interest in generative AI, machine learning, and software development. You will work closely with senior engineers while owning clearly defined features and technical deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Build and test AI-powered application features.
• Integrate large language model APIs into internal and customer-facing products.
• Develop prompts, structured outputs, retrieval workflows, and basic AI-agent capabilities.
• Prepare, clean, and validate data used by AI systems.
• Create evaluation datasets and automated tests for model quality.
• Investigate hallucinations, incorrect outputs, performance issues, and unexpected model behavior.
• Write maintainable code, documentation, and technical notes.
• Support AI-service deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Participate in remote code reviews, planning sessions, and technical discussions.
• Research new AI tools and summarize their potential uses for Fizz Dev.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Up to 3 years of relevant employment, internship, project, or academic experience.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Familiarity with APIs, Git, SQL, and cloud-development concepts.
• Understanding of software-development and machine-learning fundamentals.
• Experience completing an AI, data, or software project.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn through feedback.
• Clear written communication and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with large language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, or vector databases.
• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or model APIs.
• Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Familiarity with automated testing, Docker, or continuous integration.
• A portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating practical development work.

Success Measures

During the first year, the Junior AI Engineer will:

• Independently deliver defined AI features with appropriate testing and documentation.
• Develop proficiency in Fizz Dev’s AI technology stack.
• Contribute reliable evaluation data and identify recurring model-quality issues.
• Improve the efficiency of AI testing and validation.
• Demonstrate continued growth in technical judgment, ownership, and code quality.

Compensation

Base salary: $100,000 to $135,000 USD per year.

Target bonus: 5% of base salary. This is an annual performance-based target and is not guaranteed; actual awards depend on company and individual performance.

Actual base salary within the posted range depends on experience, skills, location, and other job-related factors.
